Pray for Peace

Blog In Audio:

Greetings,

During the time of captivity, God told His people to pray for the peace of Babylon. That captivity would last seventy years, but God promised to take care of His people during their restraint. His thoughts for them were for a future and a hope, despite the circumstances that seemed to bind them.

We are to pray for the place of our dwelling. That peace is for the welfare of our place of dwelling. We don’t agree with the ways of the world, but we pray for peace in our world. We remain true to the character of Christ in our actions, but also remain true to His character in our attitude towards sinners.

Jeremiah 29:7 And seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to the LORD for it; for in its peace, you will have peace.

We are to be those who live by a relationship with God and the testimony of His love. We pray for God’s peace in the midst of every worldly trouble. Our wisdom comes from God, and it is not a wisdom that comes through human protest, but a wisdom that makes peace by seeking the presence of God in all things. It is not an earthly, self-seeking, demonic inspiration. It is a willingness to seek God and yield to Him and His will in all things.

Romans 12:14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. 16 Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion. 17 Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. 18 If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. 19 Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. 20 Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Leaders lead others in being a witness of Christ to their world. We are in the world, but we do not live according to the values or principles of the world. We live according to the values and the principles of God in Christ. God is merciful, gracious, longsuffering, abundant in goodness, abundant in truth, merciful, and forgiving in all things. He doesn’t ignore the flaws of men, but only He can transform the minds and hearts of men.

We must be true to the character of Christ to be a testimony of Christ to our world. We are salt and we a light in and to our world. God is the one who sets things right, but we must act right towards those who are bound to the darkness of this world.

1 Corinthians 5:11 But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner—not even to eat with such a person. 12 For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside? Do you not judge those who are inside? 13 But those who are outside God judges. Therefore “put away from yourselves the evil person.”

We are responsible to embrace the holiness of God in Christ, but we are not to shame or condemn those who have not experienced the life of God in Christ. We are to shine as ambassadors of light to a world in darkness.
