We must all face the test of giants in our path of destiny. We can only pass the test of giants when we find our identity, our testimony, and our purpose of destiny in Christ. The giants do not come to destroy us. We are sent to them to demonstrate the power God in our lives. We are sent to them to prove that love wins! We are called to possess the spheres and boundaries of our lives with the testimony of Christ in us, the hope of glory!
As I stated last week, the place of giants needed identity, a testimony, and the power of God’s purpose. It was at the entrance was Hebron. Hebron is a fortified place where things are in alliance or associationfor a purpose. It is place where our covenant with God and one another and our commitment to His purpose in our lives is tested. Three categories of giants were there to oppose the Children of Israel. I believe these three things stand against you and I in our path of destiny. These were the giants of Ahiman, meaning my brother is a gift, Sheshai, meaning noble,and Talmai, meaning furrowed. The giants represent things that team up against us to stop us in our destiny. These are things that team up against us to draw out our resolve, our commitment to our part in the calling or the testimony of Christ, and our destined purpose in Christ. They are giants. They appear to be more gifted than us. They present themselves as more noble or influential than us. These giants are more entrenched, traditioned, or furrowed in their ways than us. These giants are meant to draw out our gifting, draw out our nobility, and draw out our creativity to reign in life.
Numbers 14:2 And all the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron, and the whole congregation said to them, “If only we had died in the land of Egypt! Or if only we had died in this wilderness! 3 Why has the Lord brought us to this land to fall by the sword, that our wives and children should become victims? Would it not be better for us to return to Egypt?”
At the test of giants, the Children of Israel were afraid to die by the sword because they had not become the sword. They saw the sword of the giants as more powerful than the sword of God. They saw the word against them as stronger that God’s word was for them. We must all come to the place where we see God’s word as more powerful than any word that opposes our destiny. We must see our lives as a testimony of God’s word to be who we are in our gifting, our expression to others, and our purpose in the destiny of God. We must be strong in God’s presence and strong in God’s word.
Only Caleb and Joshua were ready to pass the test giants. They knew the secret to the test.
Numbers 14:8 If the Lord delights in us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us, ‘a land which flows with milk and honey.’ 9 Only do not rebel against the Lord, nor fear the people of the land, for they are our bread; their protection has departed from them, and the Lord is with us. Do not fear them.”
Because the Children of Israel could not pass the test of giants, they wandered in the desert for another thirty-eight years. Only Caleb and Joshua remained strong in God’s presence and strong in God’s word to enter the land and take the heads of the giants.
The journey from Egypt to the Promised Land held ten tests for the Children of Israel. These are the types of tests we face in our journey as well. We do not pass one test and avoid the others. The passing of these tests is not just a one-time experience in our lives. They are a pattern in refining our relationship with God in all things. These tests are not things we walk through so we will fail. These tests reveal who God is in our lives and the power of His great mercy and love. Ten is simply a symbolic number of God’s love. It is the complete test of God’s love in our lives that causes His love to be demonstrated to and through us in all things.
Numbers 14:22 because all these men who have seen My glory and the signs which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have put Me to the test now these ten times, and have not heeded My voice, 23 they certainly shall not see the land of which I swore to their fathers, nor shall any of those who rejected Me see it.
God will demonstrate His faithfulness in our lives as we face these tests. We will reign in life by the power of God’s grace as we find our identity, our testimony, and our purpose of destiny in Him in all things:
- The test of Bondage – Ex. 5:21; harder tasks- bricks without straw – God’s uses the enemies strong hand to let them go and to drive them out;
- The test of relationship – love – trust – deliverance – Ex.14:11;
- The test of bitterness – Ex. 15:24;
- The test of living on God’s words – not the appetite of self – Ex.16:2;
- The test of purpose – water – the place of God’s rest for God’s purpose through our lives – Ex.17:2, 3;
- The test of a created image of God instead being formed by God – the golden calf – a god of man’s own imagination and creation – Ex. 32:1;
- The test of fire – Num. 11:1;
- The test of meat – strength of the flesh – human desires and agendas – Num. 11:4;
- The test of authority – Judging sent authority according to the flesh – Miriam became leprous – Num. 12:1;
- The test of giants – to be overcomers – Num. 14:2.
